Alexandra Turner – 2013 British Taekwondo National Champion

Alex – Gold Medal and British Champion

I am so very pleased to say that I have won GOLD at the British Taekwondo National Championships and I now hold the title of the British Taekwondo National Champion 2013, in my weight division!

The championships took place in Manchester at the National Cycling Centre over the weekend of 7th- 8th September and there were all of the best of the best Taekwondo fighters there in Great Britain.. The Olympians, Sarah Stevenson MBE, (my hero!) and Martin Stamper were there and Lutalo Muhammad was actually competing because even though Lutalo had won a Bronze medal at last year’s Olympics, he had never won Gold at the British Nationals and he really wanted that title to add to his achievements. I watched his fight and was really pleased to see him win his Gold and National title too!

My coach, Master Gary Sykes is really proud of me and I would like to thank him very much as without his training and encouragement, I would not be the Taekwondo fighter that I am today.

Sarah Stevenson also sent my mum a message saying that “I had made her day!” – Now that really made me very proud as it’s not every day that an Olympic medallist and World Champion says that about you!

My future goals still remain the same – to be selected for the GB Cadet squad and compete at international level next year and to be selected for the Olympics and represent GB and win GOLD!

I have already had experience at international level when I competed in Sindelfingen, Germany at the European Children’s Taekwondo Championships in February last year and brought home Bronze!

I have recently left junior school and am now in year seven at Boston Spa which is a sports school. I am lucky to be there as the Head, Mr Walsh and all of his teachers are also encouraging me and are giving me 100% support in everything I do with my Taekwondo.

I am a total Leeds Rhino fan and try and watch every game that I can and I was absolutely delighted when Keith Senior sent me a signed book of him saying – “Keep up the good work, Alexandra” Again I am getting encouragement from the people I admire and that makes me more determined to reach my dreams in Taekwondo!

There is a lot of travelling to do and my mum and dad take me to train with Gary at his ‘All Stars’ club from my home in West Yorkshire to Doncaster three to four times a week. Along with all the extra travelling up and down the country for various tournaments there are a lot of miles to do and now with the added expense of me competing internationally, I do really  need sponsors and am asking all local businesses if they  could possibly help me reach my goal.

That would be brilliant  if anyone at all could help me!

Thank you to everybody who continues to support and encourage me and watch this space…..2020!
