Chapel FM – Your Local Arts Centre

Chapel FM—your local arts centre

When we first opened Chapel FM Arts Centre back in 2014 we created it first and foremost to provide a home for East Leeds FM—the community radio station we had been running since 2003. But the Old Seacroft Chapel, despite being a small building, allows us to do much more than just have a couple of radio studios. We also have our beautiful radio theatre which allows us to put on all kinds of events—live music, spoken word, film and theatre. Coming up in September are a couple of Friday night events that show the range of what we are now programming.

Hollie McNish 7.30pm Friday 22nd September Tickets £10 each

From time to time we get the chance to put on a nationally renowned performer in Seacroft. Hollie McNish is an award-winning poet who has over 2 million views on her Youtube channel. She has performed all over the country and on radio and television. Her first visit to Chapel FM was totally sold out and everyone had a great night. Hollie said she really enjoyed having such an enthusiastic audience and particularly enjoyed the home-made Chapel FM food on offer (we let her take some for the journey home!) She said she felt better looked after than in most of the big posh venues she has toured to. She is coming back to read from her new book—Plum:

Plum is certainly brave…The poems are refreshingly funny, angry, contemplative and personal. A sense of wanting the world to be a better place shines out.” The Telegraph.

We are not quite sure what we will be cooking from the Chapel FM allotment that night, but it should be a great night. Book your tickets on our Eventbrite channel at

Open Mic Night 7.30pm Friday 29th September Pay What You Can

The following Friday in September sees the return of our remarkably popular Open Mic night for its autumn season. This year we have been getting upwards of 20 local acts of all ages to our Open Mic night which runs on the last Friday of each month; acts ranging from singers to choirs to bands to poets to readings to comedy… It’s always a fun night out and a great advertisement for local talent. We’ve even had visiting artists from as far afield as London, Scotland and the Netherlands who are always welcome, but the best thing is the supportive atmosphere and that everyone is welcome to come and have a go.

If you want to book yourself a slot, turn up on the night before 7pm and audience welcome for a 7.30 start. Food and drinks available on a Pay What You Can basis.

One final advance warning is that our next Open Day at Chapel FM will be on the afternoon of Saturday October 7th when you will be able to come down and find out more about the whole range of activities that take place down at East Leeds’ first arts centre; and how you can get involved.
