East Leeds Magazine Editorial – Issue 50

Welcome to Issue 50 of ELM. aaaaaaaug15iss50COVER

What if we live to be fifty

And the optimists win by a mile

Supposing we stop the starvation and slaughter

And the century ends with a smile

Maybe recycling paper

Will bring back the forests again

And maybe the five year old psychos with knives

Will grow up to be happy and sane

Well, we’ve finally made it to fifty issues and stuck for a song to celebrate with, we ended up with good old Tom Robinson’s ‘Fifty.’ Here’s to many more 2-4-6-8 Ain’t Never too Late!

Our friends at Chapel FM make us feel old as they are approaching their first anniversary at the Chapel on October 9th, raise a glass to the first of many!

Look out for St. Gemma’s Vintage Fair on Sat 5th & Sun 6th September. Get your antiques valued by Radio Leeds auctioneer Gary Don on the Saturday morning. If you miss this they have an Autumn Fair on 10th October.

A few old timers and regulars in this issue. Alan Mills waves goodbye to Palestine in his last article for us. We’d like to say a big thank you to Alan for all his contributions. We’ve been amazed at his popularity, we’ve had emails from as far afield as Israel and the USA.

Constantin Manole takes us through the perils of cycling on the roads these days and a big hand for ELM regular Sam Smith who picked up her first title as a professional boxer at Garforth Town FC, read all about it in Lee Murtagh’s boxing diary.

We also went to the VW Festival at Harewood House, check out our video at the top of the page.

Lastly, Harmony Choir who are based on Stoney Rock Lane, LS9 7TB are opening their doors to new members, anyone interested in joining these progressive songsters, check out
