But it’s not only about martial arts, as well as being a family run business, Michael and his wife Wendy are keen to stress the fitness aspect.

“It’s great for the karate club to finally get its own Dojo, but the fitness centre is just as important and we hope to be welcoming all ages, shapes and sizes. There are not many gyms or fitness centres in East Leeds and we hope we’re filling a gap in the market. We’ve all the usual, treadmill, X-Trainers, bikes, steppers, rowing machines and free weights plus there’s refreshment facilities and a place to relax for a drink and a chat afterwards.”

It’s clear a lot of work and thought has gone into the fitness centre since it’s previous incarnation as a fireplace showroom and it’s a worthy home for Leeds Premier Karate Club which has been running for 24 years now and has recently expanded, taking new beginners of all ages, with more classes planned for the new year.
