Kindly sponsored by SimplyHealth and following in the footsteps of the now infamous TV show led by Lord Alan Sugar, teams that take part in the challenge will be given the opportunity to showcase their innovative strategies and fundraising skills in a celebratory finale. The teams will be scrutinised and questioned on how they raised their totals  by an esteemed judging panel which will reveal which team raised the most, and therefore ‘hired’, whereas the teams that raised the least…will be ‘fired!’ Judges on the panel include none other than Mr Yorkshire, Keith Madeley MBE. Other esteemed judges include; Dawn Spencer, Barclays Business Manager, Andrea Olsen, Sales Manager at Simply Health and Serial Entrepreneur, Innovator, Inventor and Change Maker John Macleod from The Professional.

The very creative company Dots Printhaus www.dotsprint.co.uk who offer a bespoke screen printing service are really pleased to be taking part. They will be creating tote bags and screen prints with a unique design for the challenge and selling them across Leeds.  Jonny Akers said;

”We’re really excited to take part in the Leeds Mencap Apprentice challenge. It’s a great opportunity to help raise money for the charity and to show off what we can do!”

The newest entrant to our challenge is from Ethica Resourcing Ltd and Easypay, a recruitment company based in Guiseley who will be raising money by organising bake off competitions, running pamper sessions in the office, carrying out sponsored silences and dress down days. Plus two members of staff will be climbing the National Three Peaks between them. Sarah Shaw Managing Director of Ethica said this of why they were taking part in our Apprentice Challenge;

 “As a company we are choosing to support the life changing work of Leeds Mencap. The charity has a significant positive impact on families in our local community and this is why we have chosen to raise money to support them in their Apprentice Competition Scheme. As part of our fundraising we are to have a week long sponsored silence across the business to demonstrate to our team how much we take the gift of speech and communication for granted, and to really appreciate how hard it must be to not have the ability to communicate effectively verbally. We hope, by raising money and increased awareness of the charity, more families can have the opportunity and support provided by Leeds Mencap helping them to remain positive in their life long journey of living with learning disabilities.”

The challenge will bring some incredible opportunities and results that will highlight the excellent work of the organisations involved. It will provide teams the opportunity to bond in the work place, build morale and enthusiasm for their work as well as the potential to build new partnerships across Leeds. The challenge aims to inspire businesses to go the extra mile by engaging in a positive and exciting way. It will ignite a bit of friendly rivalry and showcase business skills whilst at the same time raising valuable funds for the work that Leeds Mencap fulfil. Above all else…it will be really fun and teams can count on the fact that they will be doing something amazing for local people with learning disabilities.

The Leeds Mencap Apprentice teams will be fundraising between the 3rd March – 24th April and will be invited to the celebration round-up event which will be on the 30th April in the Trinity Church, Boar Lane, Leeds.
