Running with the Sheppard Brothers

Most of us are familiar with Richard Sheppard from EHS.  But what he might not know is he’s recently taken up running and together with his three brothers; David, Peter and Ray, he recently ran the Jane Tomlinson 10k in York.

“When they realised we were four brothers aged between 63 to 73 they immediately moved us onto the front for the start, I’m not sure if they had ever had it before.”

The brothers are running in celebration of the eldest, David successfully beating brain and eye cancer. And while they might be a bit long in the tooth to rival the exploits of Mo Farah and co, their achievement in even attempting the race is to be admired.

“We’re not exactly in our youth, as our ages range from 66 to 73, but we are proof that running is for anyone and life is for living and enjoying at every age.  Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a family around who haven’t had experience of cancer. It truly is a horrible disease and it’s our way of saying thank you to the wonderful caring teams who not only looked after David but work tirelessly in the pursuit of cures for cancer and the care of those that have it.  We hope to raise a few quid to try and support the Jane Tomlinson appeal, it’s a charity with local roots and we’d all be really grateful if everyone can pledge as little or as much as they can so the care and fight for cures can go on.”
